How Does Detailer’s Preference Manufacture Cotton Products?
Cotton fabric manufacturing begins by preparing the yarn for weaving or knitting.
Weaving
Modern factories use high-speed weaving machines that move back and forth horizontally across the loom, weaving the filling yarn together with the horizontal warp yarn.
Some machines have metal arms called rapiers. The rapiers pick up the filling thread and carry it halfway across the loom, where another rapier picks it up and carries it the rest of the way. Other types of machines use small projectiles that pick up the filling thread and carry it all the way across the warp.
Knitting
This method of making fabric uses a series of needles to interlock loops of yarn. Most cotton is knitted on circular machines that have needles attached to the edge of a rotating cylinder. As the cylinder spins, the needles move from stitch to stitch, creating a tubular fabric.
Another basic machine is the flat knitting machine. The flat bed has many needles arranged in a straight line. This machine produces a flat knit fabric, similar to woven fabric.
